Obituary – Alan Smith

The FMPA are saddened to hear of the passing of former England Physiotherapist Alan Smith aged 74. Alan was an extremely well known and popular figure within the football community, having worked at several clubs including Darlington, Rotherham United, Blackpool, Sheffield Wednesday and Blackburn Rovers.
Alan was a fervent support of the FMPA and has attended every one of the FMPA Conferences with his son, Paul.
On behalf of all our Members we would like to offer our condolences to Alan’s family at this time.
A Celebration of Life – Friday 16th June 2023
The service will take place at Hope City Church, Bernard Street, Sheffield at 1pm. Following the service the car will travel for a drive beneath the South Stand from the Penistone Road entrance before a celebration in the 1867 Lounge. Supporters are warmly invited to say their goodbyes to Alan at the stadium but such is the expected turnout of the celebration, the 1867 Lounge is invite only.
Donations to the Rio Spur Fund
No flowers please, donations to be made instead to The Rio Spurr fund. Rio is the 4 year old son of former Sheffield Wednesday player Tommy Spurr who has an ongoing battle with Kidney cancer.
