MSC AND PGDIP SPORT AND EXERCISE MEDICINE
The Sports and Exercise Medicine Post-Graduate programmes are open to nationally and internationally qualified medical doctors, physiotherapists, osteopaths and podiatrists.
Learning objectives and course content align with competencies defined by the physiotherapy IFSP, medical FSEM and podiatric RCPSG. Students complete some modules which are compulsory and multi-disciplinary, and others that are specific to the professional route. For students completing the MSc, they will need to complete a research project.
During the programme, students must accrue 32 (half-day) multi-disciplinary clinical placements – with clinical learning opportunities, including monthly inter-disciplinary combined clinics, practical experience of elite sporting environments and development of clinical reasoning within leading sports medicine facilities provided.
Taught components of the course are delivered in lecture and practical formats across two semesters (Sept-Dec and Jan-Mar), over 1 to 4 years. A blended learning approach integrates in person, face to face teaching with online lectures and seminars. Sessions are presented by national and international experts; from cutting edge basic scientists to physiotherapists, doctors and other health professionals working with world-class athletes.
Overall, the design of the programme provides a comprehensive foundation from which students take forward their own specific and continued professional development in SEM.
